Feed newberg

What is it?

Feed Newberg is a non-profit that offers community support in the form of a community kitchen located in Northside Community Church and focused on serving healthy food, at a consistent time, in a consistent location.

How?

Northside Staff, in partnership with CWC staff and volunteers, will cook nutritious meals every evening using food donations from Fish, Love INC and others which will then be served to those in need.

The houseless & low-income community in Newberg is facing a significant challenge in gaining access to food, nutritious meals, and transportation to local food service organizations. In partnership with Providence Milwaukie Community Teaching Kitchen, Community Wellness Collective (CWC), Yamhill Community Action Partnership (YCAP), local churches, Fish, Love INC and others, we are determined to improve access to food and food services. Feed Newberg is a non-profit that is committed to serving healthy food, at a consistent time, in a consistent location to those facing food scarcity in our community.

the
vision

What does it look like to be Jesus through a kitchen? Through the act of a shared meal and a need met. Relaying value and compassion through community. Gathering around a meal and listening to one another’s story. Offering love and support during our time together is just the beginning. We hope to be a consistent voice of hope and love.

What’s next?

A fully functional industrial grade kitchen, licensed to serve, is a $250K project. We have raised just over $150k and we have broken ground on Sept 1, 2024. While the kitchen will be housed in Northside Community Church, it will be operated collaboratively with other non-profits and local churches in a combined effort to meet the needs of the houseless and low income communities in Newberg.

How do I get involved?

A community kitchen takes community effort to build. We’re close to our fundraising goal, and funds are always welcome and needed in our journey to build a kitchen to feed our community.  Other ways people can be involved are:

  • Prayer
  • Fundraising
  • Marketing
  • Business Consulting
  • Event Planning
  • Community Networking

After the kitchen is completed in 2025, our needs will expand to include a kitchen manager, volunteer team leaders, and individuals interested in cooking and providing meals.

What’s the plan?

The kitchen should be completed in 2025 and ready to start welcoming our neighbors to enjoy a free & nutritious meal. We’re excited to partner with Providence, who we will open our kitchen to, for cooking classes. Our goal is for Providence to use our kitchen as another teaching kitchen, like the one they have in Milwaukie, where doctors can refer patients to receive cooking classes through our kitchen.

We’ll also be partnering with non-profits and churches in the community to staff the kitchen with a team of rotating volunteers. Perishable food will provided in partnership with YCAP, local farmers, and other food banks in the community in order to provide fresh food daily for anyone facing food insecurity in Newberg.

It's a team effort!
